Sun? Time to protect your skin.
As soon as we’re on a holiday in the sun or when there’s sun in your own country, we go out. Al fresco breakfast, lunch and dinner in summer, go to the market, ride our bike to work or take the car with a sunroof or we take the cabriolet, working in the garden etc: our skin is constantly exposed to the ultraviolet light of the sun. This is important because we need the vitamin D for our bone and teeth development and growth, but ultraviolet light can also damage our health. Unprotected exposure to the sun can lead to premature skin ageing and wrinkling, and suppresses our immune system.
The main three types of the invisible UV light rays are A, B and C. UVA and UVB are harmful, UVC doesn’t get through to the earth, yet. SPF (Sun Protection Factor) could better be called a ‘sun burn protection factor’ as it mainly shows the level of protection against UVB (the chief cause of skin reddening and sunburn), not the protection against UVA. UV rays will usually burn the outermost layers of our skin, which causes permanent damage over time and plays a key role in the development of skin cancer. Artificial light from tanning lamps contains UVA and UVB. The intensity of UV light differs from country to country, the time of the day and by season.
Waterproof, biodegradable and nano-free RINGANA SPF 20 Sun Protection Balm relies on natural mineral sun protection filters, so it’s perfect for anybody who wants to avoid synthetic UV filters, and who wouldn’t? In most sunscreens, active ingredients like parabens, oxybenzone, octinoxate and octocrylene pose an environmental threat. These UV-absorbing nanoparticles contribute to coral bleaching, with the result that coral reefs in e.g. Australia, the Caribbean and the Florida Keys are dying and crumble to dust. These nanoparticles are used in most sunscreens because the micronising metal particles are useful ingredients of sunscreens as they reflect the UVA and UVB radiation. Apart from their effect on the coral reefs, these ingredients penetrate your skin while using it on your body and increases the risk of cancer (this according to the Cancer Council Australia).
RINGANA uses nano-free zinc and nano-free titanium particles, which means that the primary particle size is greater than 100 nanometers (nm), a unit of measurements used to measure very small particles. Therefore, there are no risks associated with nanoparticles.
RINGANA offers three different sun care products:
- FRESH sunscreen (SPF 20 provides 95% protection against UV radiation. A higher protection can only be obtained with non-organic ingredients)
- FRESH after sun (tanning care which works as a skin care and deepens your tan)
- CAPS protect (an internal shield which fights the free radicals – for smokers and sun lovers)
