Welcome back again!

Last time we talked about what you actually know about the ethical standards behind your favourite brands or products. Today we want to highlight the aspect of cruelty-free.

What does it actually mean when we talk about cruelty-free brands or products?

Cruelty-free refers to animal welfare and to products that are not tested on animals, whereas vegan refers to products that do not contain any animal-derived ingredients. According to the European law, for skin care products & cosmetics, that means, only the finished product may not be tested on animals. Outside Europe, like in China e.g., animal testing is still required by law, so if a skin care product is also for sale in China, be sure of it, that this product is definitely not cruelty-free.

To find out whether your favourite product is cruelty-free or not, you can look for certified labels on the packaging, you can check the website or contact the producer directly.

Our favourite skin care brand, goes even a step further:

It does not allow animal testing throughout their whole supply chain. Which means, that all the different suppliers have to guarantee, that every single ingredient they provide, has not been tested on animals at an earlier stage.

RINGANA is an Austrian company that has been awarded with the ‘Leaping Bunny’ label by ‘Cruelty-Free International’. RINGANA states that all of its products do not contain animal ingredients. The so-called ‘fresh cosmetics’, are produced without preservatives and solvents, stabilisers and mineral oils. As a result, the products have a limited shelf life. The ‘Leaping Bunny’ label is recognised in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, and throughout much of the European Union. It is the only international logo of its kind!

So, is your favourite product certified as cruelty-free? Why not having a look and check out your bathroom?

Please share your findings, thoughts or questions with us, by simply adding a note underneath, sending us a PM or join one of our online events. Because sharing your experiences will help us all. We would love to hear from you.
