Magnolia ……one of the first flowering plants known to mankind and one of the favourite trees in our garden!
Our gardener told us that millions of years ago, the blooms of magnolia were pollinated by beetles, because magnolias emerged long before the bees existed.
Worldwide, there are about 304 species, but 147 wild magnolias are in danger of extinction by logging activity and land conversion to agriculture land livestock farming. Another threat of course is the impact of climate change. There are about 210 different flowering species.
Magnolia bark is used in good quality skin creams and is common in traditional Chinese medicine. The extract has an antioxidant and an anti-inflammatory effect and soothes the skin.
The flower represents beauty, health, purity and joy……….
Stay safe and enjoy the Magnolias, now they’re blooming!
